Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu has had a meeting with the delegation of the group Friends of Moldova at the European Parliament, Romanian MEPs Norica Nicolai and Maria Grapini, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.    

Andrian Candu informed about the authorities’ actions to ensure elections complying with the national legislation and international standards on 24 February 2019. The parliament speaker stressed that all needed measures were undertaken and would be taken to ensure a free, fair, balanced, correct, inclusive campaign and polls, so that the elections show the will of Moldova’s people.

MEP Norica Nicolai stressed that the Friends of Moldova were by the side of the country and would support us in continuation. The MEPs highlighted the need to preserve the European road for Moldova following the parliamentary elections due on 24 February.

The group Friends of Moldova at the European Parliament was launched in 2017, at an initiative by MEP Norica Nicolai.

Romania holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2019.
